Journalist’s Desk
The Journalist’s Desk is the fourth desk in a series I have worked on over several years, always guided by the same aim: a light visual impression. It is built in ash, with drawers in birch and a desktop covered in nubuck leather.
Slender and considered — made for focus
The desk is designed around a single idea: keeping the working surface clear. Drawers and a cupboard hold what is needed without any of it being on show. The leather surface is replaceable — the piece can be used and maintained for generations rather than replaced.
Care in every detail
The desk was built as my journeyman’s piece at Malmstens. With my background as a designer I chose to design it myself, which let me balance the design against the level of difficulty.
The build took ten weeks. The hardest part was the rebate along the top of the desktop — a routed cut that has to be made late in the process, when almost everything else is finished.
The desk in the photographs is that journeyman’s piece. Each new one is built to order.

About the desks
Every desk is built as a numbered one-off — by me, or by a cabinetmaker I work with — and signed by whoever built it. It matters to me that the craft stays visible, and that the person behind the piece is given their place.
